BMW has introduced a new version of the model 5 Series with the index M550d xDrive. The novelty has become a diesel alternative to the already shown 456-horsepower gasoline version M550i xDrive.
A key feature of the car is the 3.0-liter in-line diesel “six” under the hood. Its output reaches 400 hp. power and 760 Nm of torque, already available from 2000 revolutions per minute (the first 450 Nm – from 1000 r / min.). Compared to the previous generation M550d, the recoil increased by 19 hp. and 20 Nm.
It was possible to achieve all these indicators due to the use of four successively working turbochargers at once: two low-pressure blowers and two more high. Three superchargers operate continuously, the last high-pressure compressor is turned on after 2500 rpm.
Thrust is transmitted to the wheels through an 8-step “automatic” and xDrive all-wheel drive system. Overclocking to the “hundreds” of the M550d sedan will take 4.4 seconds (the universal – 4.6 seconds). The “four-door” turned out not much slower than the M5 (F10) – that car gets 100 km / h in 4.3 seconds.
The manufacturer promises that the average consumption will be only 5.9 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle for the sedan and 6.2 liters for the same distance – for the station wagon.
By default, the M550d version will receive special aerodynamic parts (bumpers, diffusers and spoilers), the dark color of the “nostrils” of the grille and mirror housings, as well as 19-inch wheels (275/35 tires at the rear and 245/40 at the front), suspension M Sport with understating by 10 mm, variable steering ratio and other equipment.
